Monday morning, Memorial Day, Rick and I were watching the morning news. Rick suggested that since it was such a nice day that we take a drive to Maine and have lunch. So we did. We got in the car and headed out a bit before 9:00 AM. Our first stop in Maine was at Kittery Trading Post - not to spend any money, but to browse - it's a great store.
We then proceeded to Ogunquit and down to Perkins Cove. The thought was to have lunch at the "Oarweed" restaurant. We found a parking space and as we walked from the car we were suprised to see George & Barbara Bush who had just finished lunch at a nearby eatery. They were cordial and said hello to everyone as they made their way down to their boat. They waved to everyone as they got ready to leave, and Barbara actually took out her camera to get a picture of all the folks taking pictures of her!
Anyway, after visiting with some local folks about lunch, they suggested we go up to Mike's Clam Shack - some of the best food in town. So we did. The Lobster Pie was great, and the Clam Chowder wasn't bad either! We then drove up along the coast to Kennebunkport and got some pics of the Bush estate (and the boat was back home!) before heading into Portland. From there we decided to take Route 302 back to Vermont. A little diversion took us over the Kancamangus Highway, but we arrived back in Randolph around 9:00 PM. It was a great day trip. :)
